FTC - Consumer FraudThe FTC (the Federal Trade Commission) is the agency that handles consumer fraud, advertising, & data-collection issues in the United States. It handles these cases both online & off-line & is one of the most expert Internet regulatory agencies. The Federal Trade Commission is in charge when it comes to issues of children's online privacy where commercial sites are concerned. They are one of the most Internet-savvy regulatory authorities in the United States & have been working on these issues since the Web was launched. The FTC has done several surveys of children's web sites over the last few years. They are charged with enforcing COPPA, as well. They have concluded, more than once, that many of the sites that cater to children don't tell parents (or children) what information they collect from children or how it will be used. Cyberscams & fraud can be reported to the FTC at their web site, www.ftc.gov, by filling out the electronic complaint form. Please also check the FTC Home Page Privacy for Kids. |
