That's why several of the kids Internet industry leaders & Parry Aftab got together to design & implement the WiredKids Central Site Registry. Everyone donated their time & services to help create the first central registry for parents & sites. Sites can join, once we determine that they are COPPA-compliant, if we approve their content as being family-friendly. There is a cost for their participation, on a sliding scale. Parents can then come to wiredkids.org, view our recommendations about great sites for kids, & register for the ones they choose, at one time. Giving consent once to the sites. Their privacy policies are available from links at wiredkids.org, along with a description of their site. Parents can use a credit card to make a tax-deductible donation to Wiredkids.org (benefiting equitable access for all children to a safe, educational & private Internet), call in to our toll-free number (coming soon) or send us a letter (the ones with a stamp delivered by a postal service worker) or fax. One time, one place for all your Internet safety & privacy concerns...and we never share your information, unless you specifically authorize it through the Central Site Registry, & then only to those sites you select to allow your children to use those sites. Parents can trust wiredkids.org to help you learn all you need to know to help your children develop into "wired kids," safely & privately. If you'd like to learn more about COPPA, you can visit the FTC web site. Members of the press, the children's Internet industry & anyone with questions can contact me directly. |
